Professional Background
Dr Chris Clark (formerly known as Chris Coulthard-Clark) has been the RAAF Historian since early in 2004 and heads the Office of Air Force History in the Air Power Development Centre at Tuggeranong. Prior to joining the APDC, he was Historian for Post-1945 Conflicts at the Australian War Memorial. Previously, he was a Research Editor with Australian Dictionary of Biography at the Australian National University, and ran his own historical consultancy. In 1991-93 he was Historical Fellow at the Air Power Studies Centre (as the APDC was once known), and before that Chief of the Air Staff Historian 1987-91.
Publications
He has published extensively on Australian defence history generally. His PhD, gained at the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1991, was on the development of Australian air power between the world wars. His published works on RAAF subjects have been The Third Brother (1991), Edge of Centre (1992), The RAAF in Vietnam (1995), From the Ground Up (1997), Hit My Smoke (1997) and McNamara,VC (1997). He has been a Visiting Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Australian Defence Force Academy since 2003.
